Fordham Theatre Announces 2025-26 Mainstage Season

Myth to Momentum: Stories of Reckoning and Renewal

We are thrilled to announce the Fordham MainStage 2025-26 season of Myth to Momentum: Stories of Reckoning and Renewal.  Each of these shows has a deep resonance within our community, engages with the world around us, and offers exciting opportunities for creative risk and play.

Kicking off the season is the groundbreaking two-time Pulitzer-winning dramatist, Lynn Nottage play, By the Way, Meet Vera Stark. In this highly entertaining, mischievously political, irreverent comedy, Nottage draws upon the screwball films of the 1930s to take an incisive and wry look at the racial stereotypes in Hollywood. In a seventy-year journey through the life of Vera Stark, an ambitious maid and budding actress, Nottage upends the stereotypes in racial typecasting and beats Hollywood at its own game. Acclaimed actor, director and educator, Adrienne D. Williams directs.

Actor, director, and Shakespearean specialist, Ryan Quinn helms The Tempest, Shakespeare’s final work of power, colonization, betrayal and love. Prospero, exiled to an enchanted island, wields powerful magic to control the spirits of the island and shape the fate of those who have wronged them. As their daughter Miranda comes of age, a tale of magic, revenge and reconciliation unfolds – where all must face the consequences of their past and the cost of forgiveness.

Last season, we developed and produced the world premiere of Horoscope by celebrated writer, Rajiv Joseph as the launching of Fordham Firsts: New Works Initiative. This season Fordham Theatre is proud to present the world premiere of A Lunar Rhapsody, written and directed by the world-renowned, Oscar-nominated, playwright and screenwriter, José Rivera. Set against the backdrop of a super blue blood moon, cosmic refugees, the Dimensionals, a group of teens, an elderly couple and three roommates gather in an unban basketball course, eagerly awaiting the lunar eclipse. anticipate the lunar eclipse. A Lunar Rhapsody is a reflection of who we are together, who we are apart and how interconnected it all can be.

Revered faculty and director, Dawn Akemi Saito, closes out the season with Sarah Ruhl’s Eurydice, a reimagining of the classic myth of Orpheus through the eyes of its heroine. Dying too young on her wedding day, Eurydce must journey to the underworld where she reunites with her father and struggles to remember her lost love. A touching poignant story of memory, loss and love.

We are absolutely thrilled to embark on the exhilarating journey of our upcoming season: Myth to Momentum: Stories of Reckoning and Renewal. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who played a part in shaping this extraordinary lineup. With the collective input and enthusiasm of our dedicated community, we have curated a season that promises to be nothing short of extraordinary. This is not merely a season of theater; it is a deeper investigation of how the powerful act of storytelling strengthens and transforms our societies. We hope you will be involved in all aspects of the making of these shows. Join us as we dive headfirst into a world of passion, inspiration, and unbridled creativity!
